Crazy Rich Asians Series

REVIEW

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Rachel Chu and Nick Young have been dating for almost two years now. When Nick invites her to spend the whole summer in Singapore where his family lives, Rachel expects to find a small and humble family home and spend all of her time with Nick. What she doesn’t know is that Nick Young is crazy rich. His little house actually a palace and his family is nowhere near welcoming.

The first book in the series hooked me because it was a fun, entertaining and full of drama. It was interesting to get to know so many characters – I absolutely adored Nick, Rachel and Astrid. Poor Rachel was not prepared to be thrown into this crazy family but she did so well! She wasn’t a pushover, always did what she wanted to do and knew when to stay or leave. As for Nick, I kept on expecting him to do something wrong that would ruin his relationship but was pleasantly surprised he didn’t! Sure, he didn’t prepare Rachel about what she’s getting into but he always tried his best to fix any issues. Astrid was fascinating. I imagined her as a sophisticated and a beautiful woman – inside and out. She was definitely my favourite character and stayed like that in the rest of the series too.

China Rich Girlfriend (second book in the series) introduced us to even more characters. We got to meet Rachel’s father Bao, Carlton (Rachel’s brother), Colette (Carlton’s friend/ girlfriend) while the storyline followed Kitty’s new life, Rachel and Nick’s wedding and Astrid’s hectic life. I got lost a few times in this book – I found that it had too many storylines and I struggled to get attached to a specific character. Also, Astrid’s storyline in this book really disappointed me. After all the struggles with Michael in the first book, he ended up transforming into a completely different man??! I was mad that Astrid stuck around through it all but I’m glad she realized it at the end and left him. And this is where I fell in love with Charlie. All he ever wanted was for Astrid to be happy – which is why he made Michael rich in the first place! Is this man completely perfect or a bit unrealistic?? Towards the end of the book, there was a huge plot twist that I did not see coming at all. It certainly made the book more interesting!

Rich People Problems (the last and final book in the series) was by far, my favourite one. If you thought that the first two were full of drama, this is 10 times that. Every character comes together at one point or another in this book and a lot of things are starting to make sense. We get to know Nick’s grandma’s life once she was young from either her memories or others’ stories. It explains why she didn’t want Nick and Rachel to get married and some more juicy secrets are revealed (no spoilers, you'll have to read it to find out!). I flew through this book, it was so interesting and had so many twists and turns, I couldn’t put the book down.

I loved this series! Reading about this insanely extravagant life that is full of so much drama made me love to be an outsider. I definitely wouldn’t want to trade places with any of the characters even if they are so rich, they would never have to work a day in their life again. It’s a lot to take in, but if you like these kinds of books, I highly recommend reading all 3!
